What is Couchpotato?
Couchpotato is a contemporary art and project space in the home of Amethyst Rey Beaver and Corey Cottrell and their three dogs: Fran, Alvin and Tugboat.
Couchpotato was born from the spirit of DIY punk house shows and the desire to break with traditional art world rules.
This is not transactional, we are building relationships. We do this because we love it and hope to not go broke in the process.

The couch:
Lives in a room with 35 lft, 150 sqft of space. It is comfy and can be moved within the room as needed. The couch lives in this room and must remain in the space. Visitors are welcome to sit and enjoy!
The potatoes:
Can be available for play dates, walks, ball throwing sessions, and photoshoots upon request. They do not participate in choosing the works nor will they attend the opening receptions.
Fran is a purebred Central Texas Spindle-leg Toy Thief. Corey found Fran when she was 3 months old in the streets of Austin, TX.
Alvin is a Brindle Appalachian Puker. We adopted him in 2019, but he only decided that he likes us this year.
Tugboat is a Kentucky Common Rednose Cuddle-butt. He is the pandemic puppy who brought Fran and Alvin together in their mutual annoyance of their youngest brother.
The space:
Like most living rooms, it is flexible and adaptable. We can move things around, build pedestals, accommodate films or projections, installation art, and performances. It is the heart of a 100+ year old house and the floors and doors are all original to the home, full of character and stains and scuffmarks.

Our opening and closing celebrations are open to the public. Not that we need to remind anyone, but please remember that this is our home, please be kind.
We love having guests over to see the work, but we cannot commit to regular “open hours”. So, if you cannot make it to the opening or closing celebrations, please send us a message and we will find a time that works for everyone.
About Us
Amethyst and Corey moved to Louisville in 2016. They love cuddling with their dogs, spending time outside, eating and hanging with their friends and family, and they (mostly) love doing house projects.
Corey is a founding member and bassist of Bad Wires and works for himself building custom showers, saunas, steam rooms, and doing general contracting. When he is not playing music or building something, you can find him writing and having a beer at Monnik or getting in long bike rides and jogs on the trails around Louisville.
With 10 years of experience curating shows for public and private collections, Amethyst now leads multiple lives. By day she works as a UX designer for a medical tech company. By night, she is finishing her MS in Human Factors in Information Design, training for a (mini) triathlon, reading romantasy novels, and traveling. She continues to curate shows for galleries and museums across the country.
